English Shadowing for beginners: Giving Directions #3
Todayβs episode is about: Giving Directions.
Previous lesson was about βasking for directionsβ. Todayβs shadowing is about βgiving directionsβ.
In this lesson, we will focus on: Giving Directions and Directions with landmark.
In the end, I will give example sentences, to help you with what we have learnt today.
I hesitate when giving directions because I donβt remember road names but I do remember landmarks around the area. Lets go over the different ways of giving directions.
Giving Directions
Giving directions can be challenging because you will need to describe how to get from A to B location. You can use the following examples:
Turn right at the red light and youβll see the βtrain stationβ.
Turn left and youβll reach the βsupermarketβ.
You are going the wrong way. You will need to walk back towards the βfountainβ.
Continue straight ahead. The βparkβ is in front.
The βbus stopβ is across the road.
The βrestaurantβ is a few blocks away.
Take the first road on your left and youβll see the βhotelβ.
At the roundabout, turn left.
Directions with landmark
Next lesson is about directions with landmark. I am a visual person. I find it easier to give directions with landmark description. You can use the following examples:
The βdepartment storeβ is next to the βhotelβ.
Walk towards the βbus stopβ, then turn right at the βsupermarketβ.
The βparkβ is in front of the βtrain stationβ.
Turn left at the βbankβ and walk straight.
The βtaxi standβ is across the road from the βtoy storeβ.
Walk past the βschoolβ and turn right, youβll see the βcafeβ.
Go straight ahead until you see the βhospitalβ and then you'll see the βuniversityβ on your left.
I hope above lesson helps you on your English journey. See you in the next lesson!
