My first Chinese steamed sponge cake
Over the weekend, I tried making a Chinese steamed sponge cake. It turned out better than I thought!
You'll see this cake at Yum cha. It's also know as malaysian cake. But I don't know if it's really related to Malaysia. It's reminds me of a friend from Singapore and she said Singapore noodle, isn't from Singapore.
Below is a picture of what the cake looked it. It's nice and soft!
It's more easier to make, compare with a chiffon cake. I've tried making Chiffon cake too many times but I can't find the recipe that matches the Japanese cafe in the city. The shop has closed down now (so sad!!) and it use to have a tea and chiffon cake set. The cake was nice and spongy. When you cut it with your fork, it felt more like a sponge cake.
I don't know how to explain it. But when I try and make the different chiffon cake recipes..... the cake turns out... mushy and doesn't have the same 'sponge' feel.
Hoping one day I'll come across the right recipe :)
