When it's New Years in Japan, some of the shops will have a fukubukuro bag. In english it'll be a lucky bag. The shop will put random things in the bag and you won't know what it is until you buy it and open it.
When I was a kid I use to love going to the toy store and buying the $1 or $2 lucky bags. They would put random toy in a brown paper bag and staple the top.
I guess it'll be like Kinder Surprise for kids now.
